Mumbai auto driver rides with daughter all day after wife’s death: ‘Nobody to care for her’

While taking a ride in an auto in Mumbai, a man noticed a little girl sleeping in the narrow space behind the seat. On questioning the driver, he found out that the child was his daughter. After the death of his wife, there was nobody at home to take care of her, so the auto driver decided to bring her along with him.

A video of the interaction was shared on X with the caption: "Meet this auto driver, a single parent. His wife passed away, and since then, he has been taking his little daughter everywhere with him, earning a living and raising her alone. Being a man is not easy."

In the video, the auto driver says, "She is my daughter. I brought her with me because there's nobody at home to take care of her; it's only the two of us. Her mother died."

Social media users offer financial help

The autodriver and his daughter's story touched hearts on X.

"Send her to my mom," wrote a user. "She recently retired and would love to take care of her during the day and teach her math. Don’t worry, she is a kid of this nation."

"Society expects men to just figure it out in silence without asking for help. It’s a look at what happens when a father has to choose between a paycheck and being present because the world doesn't offer any other way," added another.

A third user said, "The sacrifices that a man makes for the family are insane. This I realised when I myself started earning."

A few others questioned why the single parent was being singled out for being a man.

"If she had a single mother, she would have also done the same. Why bring gender into everything? Simply appreciate the parent's effort. You could have written that being a parent is not easy. Don't push an agenda," commented a user.

Several other users wished to offer financial support to the auto driver.

"Any details on the gentleman, if anything I could do financially to help him a bit, I mean, he might not accept, but if we could try," an X user said. "If the post owner has verified this, please start a GoFundMe. Happy to contribute," suggested another user.
