Mexican vloggers surprised after spotting too many India-based stores in Dallas.

The Indian presence in the United States has grown steadily over the past several decades, driven largely by migration for higher education and professional opportunities. This growing diaspora has once again come into focus after a video shot in Texas went viral, leaving social media users debating the visible rise of Indian-owned businesses in parts of the US.

The clip, filmed on the streets of Dallas, shows a content creator expressing surprise at the sheer number of Indian restaurants, grocery stores and convenience outlets clustered in one area. The vlogger, who goes by the handle Pigeon Vizon, had just crossed into Texas from Mexico and appeared stunned by what he saw next.

Pointing his camera at the row of establishments, he remarked, “We just came to Texas from Mexico and look at the number of India-based shops here. There is an Indian restaurant, then there’s an Indian convenience store and another Indian cash exchange centre.” Turning to his companion, he asked for his reaction. The friend quipped back, “We came from Mexico and landed directly in India,” prompting laughter.

The light-hearted exchange quickly struck a chord online. As the video gained traction, users weighed in with their own observations about demographic shifts and ethnic neighbourhoods in the US. One commenter drew a historical parallel, saying that similar reactions were common in the early 1900s when Italian, Irish and Polish communities first became prominent in American cities.

Others shared personal experiences from Texas. A user claimed that visiting a Costco in Dallas often makes them feel like the only non-Indian shopper, while another said the outskirts of Austin are now dominated by Indian homeowners, particularly in newer, upscale residential developments.

At the same time, some users urged perspective, pointing out that despite the strong Indian visibility, Texans of Mexican origin remain the largest ethnic group in the state. One commenter noted that Texas was once part of Mexico and said its layered history and diversity are what make it a unique and vibrant place to live.
