For many families, education is seen as the safest way to build a secure future. Study hard, earn degrees and success will follow, that is the promise often repeated. But a recent social media post has raised questions about what happens when someone does everything right and still struggles to find work.
The story is about a man with not one but two degrees in Mathematics who is now working as a rider for Rapido to survive. His situation came to light after a woman named Sakshi shared her experience on X (formerly Twitter).
She had booked a Rapido ride after returning from work. During the journey, the driver suddenly asked her what she did for a living. When she told him she had a job, he told her he was looking for any kind of work to meet his daily needs and asked if she could refer him somewhere.
“Few days ago, I booked Rapido after getting back from work. Out of nowhere, he asked what I do for work. When I told him that I have a job, he said he was looking for any kind of work just to meet his daily needs. He asked if I could refer him somewhere. For this purpose, I asked about his education, and I was surprised,” she wrote.
What surprised her was his academic background. The driver holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Mathematics, along with a B.Ed. He had spent five to six years preparing for government teaching exams. Despite his efforts, he could not secure a job. With no stable income, he turned to driving for Rapido to support himself.
She further wrote, "We keep telling students study hard, get degrees, prepare for exams, and life will be stable. But what happens when someone does everything right and still has no secure job."

Her post quickly gained attention online. Many people reacted with sympathy and shared their own views about the job market. One user shared, “This is the part no one talks about. It’s not always about not working hard enough. Sometimes the system just doesn’t have space for everyone who did everything right.”
Another user wrote, “Yes it is true only 10 out of 100 would get a life what they wanted.” A third commented, “Life is not kind to all most of the time!”
One more added, “Life is unfair. We have been fed a perpetual lie that working hard yields results. In reality, anything that happens to you is a mere outcome of chance and if you believe in, fate.”
Several users also shared their own struggles. One person wrote, “I ran a marketing agency for 6 years. Clocked 16 cr revenue and had to shut down because I was not able to get new clients. Now I'm unemployed for 9 months and started a blinkit picker job last week just to survive. Life is so shitty at the moment.”
