An incident in Maharashtra's Kalyan has gone viral on social media after CCTV footage captured a man storming into a bridal boutique and slicing up a Rs 32,000 lehenga in a fit of rage. The act of vandalism occurred following an argument between his fiancée and the shopkeeper over the return policy of the outfit.

According to a report by India Today, the incident took place at Kalakshetra, a fashion store located in Kalyan West, on June 17. Meghna Makhija had purchased a bridal lehenga from the store for her upcoming wedding. However, after changing her mind about the purchase, she attempted to return the outfit.

Makhija reportedly claimed that the shopkeeper had initially assured her that the outfit could be exchanged within a month. But upon returning to the store, the shopkeeper allegedly refused to accept the lehenga back, resulting in a heated argument.

Later the same day, her fiance, Sumit Sayani, arrived at the store visibly enraged. He confronted the shopkeeper and became aggressive when the argument escalated. The confrontation took a violent turn when Sayani allegedly pulled out a knife from his pocket and began slashing the bridal lehenga inside the store, in full view of stunned staff and customers.

CCTV footage of the incident showed Sayani cutting the lehenga repeatedly, as people inside the shop looked on in disbelief.

The shopkeeper, whose identity was not revealed, told police that Sayani not only vandalised the lehenga but also issued threats.

“He told me he would tear me apart just like this lehenga if I did not comply,” the shopkeeper said in his police statement.

He further alleged that Sayani demanded Rs 3 lakh and threatened to defame the store on social media if his demands were not met.

A police complaint was subsequently filed, and a case has been registered against Sayani. The authorities are currently investigating the matter.
