  • NRI plans to move from US to Navi Mumbai for family reasons
  • He will leave a $320k salary for a Rs 1.5 crore job in India
  • Users praised his family-first choice but noted potential challenges.

After living in the United States for over 12 years, an NRI announced his plan to move back to India with his family to ensure that his children could spend more time with their grandparents. The 36-year-old man said he intends to settle in Navi Mumbai by mid-year and asked the internet for guidance.

"I'm 36, currently living in the USA on an H1B with a Nov 2018 Priority date. After much thought, my wife and I have decided to relocate our family of five back to Navi Mumbai this June," the NRI wrote in a Reddit post.

The man disclosed his annual income of Rs 2.9 crore ($320,000), with a net worth of Rs 9.06 crore ($1 million), and a debt-free home. His Indian job offer comes with a package of Rs 1.5 crore per year.

"My parents are in Hyderabad, so being closer to family is a huge driver. We want the kids to grow up with their grandparents and cousins," he said.

He asked, "However, leaving a paid-off home and a $320k salary feels like a massive shift. For those in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai, how does an approximately Rs 1.5 crore pay (including equity) feel compared to a $320k US salary? How have your US-born kids adjusted to the schooling and lifestyle change?”

The post drew widespread attention online, with users applauding the NRI for choosing family and the familiar surroundings.

Moving back to India after 12+ years in US. Am I making the right call? by u/MutedIndependent7267 in returnToIndia

One user suggested, “This move would be great if the location is Hyderabad, where parents live. Try to negotiate the Hyderabad location with your company. 1.5 CR goes a long way in Hyderabad compared to Mumbai.”

Another X user wrote, “Congrats on amassing the true wealth of 3 kids by your mid-thirties- that’s awesome! Becoming rarer and rarer among young tech families.”

A third user said, “Bro, don't come to India if u can do that. The shift in quality of life is going to hurt you a lot, and you will regret it later. “
