Following the backlash, Milan Resort issued a clarification through its official Instagram account.

A video widely circulated on X prompted strong reactions after it allegedly showed portraits of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Rani Padmini displayed on washroom doors at Milan Resort in Sikri, Haryana.

The short clip, which spread rapidly across X, appeared to show framed images of the two historical figures placed on restroom doors marked for men and women. Within hours, the footage received criticism from users who described the alleged display as insensitive and offensive.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is widely regarded as a symbol of self-rule and resistance, while Rani Padmini is associated in historical accounts with honour and sacrifice. For many, their images carry deep historical and cultural meaning. Netizens argued that placing such portraits on restroom doors amounted to disrespect.

As the video gained traction, calls for action intensified. Some users alleged deliberate intent and demanded strict measures against the venue’s management. Others urged authorities to intervene and ensure the immediate removal of the portraits.

One user wrote, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj fought for our Swarajya, and Maharani Padmini chose the fire of Jauhar to protect her dignity. To see their faces used on bathroom doors at a banquet hall in Sikriis a knife to the heart of every Indian. How did the management think this was okay? This level of cultural insensitivity is beyond repair. Respect our heroes or face the public’s wrath. Remove them NOW!"

Another comment read: “You don’t put the faces of legendary warriors and queens who died for our honor at a washroom door. It doesn't matter who the architect was their intent was clearly to disrespect. This needs to be removed immediately. Stop testing our patience!

Resort issues clarification:

Following the backlash, Milan Resort issued a clarification through its official Instagram account.

In the statement, the management said: “A few days ago, a concern was raised regarding certain images displayed at our resort.”

The post continued: “We would like to clarify that the artwork showcasing an ancient dressing style was solely meant for aesthetic enhancement of the washroom area. It was never intended to portray or resemble Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj or Rani Padmavati.”

The resort added: “We sincerely apologize if this caused hurt or misunderstanding in any way. Respect for our history, culture, and revered figures is extremely important to us.”

According to the statement, action was taken shortly after the issue came to its attention. “As soon as the issue was brought to our notice, the images were removed within an hour.”

The message concluded: “We appreciate the feedback and remain committed to being mindful and respectful in all our expressions. Thank you for your understanding. Team Milan Resort.”
