While Indian leaders and top industrialists are busy making their presence felt inside packed conference halls at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Indian food has quietly emerged as an unlikely star on the streets outside.

At one of the food courts near the venue, the Akshaya Patra Foundation has been serving khichdi to delegates and the response has been overwhelming. Long queues have formed outside the Indian food counter, with participants from across countries patiently waiting for a serving of what many Indians consider the ultimate comfort food.

As reported by news agency PTI, Indian flavours found eager takers at Davos, from familiar favourites like samosas and pakoras to the simple yet hearty khichdi. After hours of intense discussions on geopolitics, economics and climate change, delegates stepping out into the freezing Swiss winter were greeted by a warm taste of India.

With temperatures dipping sharply in Davos, several attendees said the hot khichdi was helping them stay warm between back-to-back meetings. A delegate from Japan told PTI that the dish was both comforting and practical. “It is extremely cold here. Eating khichdi feels very good and keeps me warm. There are many food options available, but I chose this because it suits the weather perfectly,” the delegate said.

Visuals of Indian food stalls and long queues soon made their way to social media, amplifying the buzz. Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma shared an image of the Indian food truck at Davos, calling it one of the highlights of the summit. “India food truck for desi veggies. EU pitching India deal as the mother of all deals. India is definitely happening at Davos,” he wrote.

Another social media user summed up the moment, noting how billionaires lining up for Indian food at Davos would have been an uncommon sight just a few years ago, but now reflects India’s growing cultural and economic footprint on the global stage.
