Raj Kundra sparks divorce rumours with Shilpa Shetty after cryptic post, clarifies later

Business Raj Kundra sparked divorce rumours from actor Shilpa Shetty after he shared a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter). Without giving a clear context, Kundra wrote “We have separated and kindly request you to give us time during this difficult period.”

The announcement quickly went viral and social media users were puzzled. Some people termed it as a “promotional gimmick” as well. Kundra also shared a screenshot of his post on Instagram Stories.

The post garnered attention swiftly and social media users started speculating about the various possibilities.

“Separate means? Divorced?” a user questioned. Another user commented, “Is it a movie gimmick?”

A third user wrote, “Must be talking about his masks.”

However, in a later post, Kundra revealed that he was actually “separating” from his masks that he has been wearing for public appearances since he was booked for an alleged pornography-related case.

“Farewell Masks …it’s time to separate now! Thank you for keeping me protected over the last two years. Onto the next phase of my journey,” he wrote with #UT69, a nod to his upcoming film, at the end.

Meanwhile, the timing of Kundra’s post coincides with trailer launch of his debut film “UT69”. The movie, starring him in the lead, revolves around nearly two months that he spent in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail.

He was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) July 2021 for his alleged involvement in a porn scandal and walked out of jail in September.

While talking to News18, Kundra mentioned Shetty’s reaction when he told her about the film’s idea. “I told her that I have a script and was waiting for her answer. When I turned away from her, a flying chappal came at my face. I think she thought that the idea was a little dicey first. Maybe she thought that the film wouldn’t get made.”

"She was very supportive. She asked me, ‘Tu acting kar lega (will you be able to act)?’ I told her that I will be able to since I have done some method acting by going to jail," he added.
