Dhanteras 2023: History, date and time of shubh muhurut

Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 10.

Diwali celebrations this year is set to commence with Dhanteras, which is observed on the 13th lunar day of "Krishna Paksha" in the Hindu calendar month of Kartika.

Dhanteras is also observed as Dhanvantari Jayanti, which is the birth anniversary of God of Ayurveda. It is believed that Lord Dhanvantari was born during the churning of milk ocean with a pot filled with "Amrit" in one hand and Ayurveda on the other hand. He is considered the Hindu god of healing, health and Ayurvedic medicine.

Legend has it that on Dhanteras day, Goddess Durga emerged out of the ocean during the "Sagar Manthan" along with "Lord Kubera" and hence the two are worshipped on the auspicious day of Trayodashi.

Lord Dhanvantari was the last to come out during "Sagar Manthan" when the Devas and Asuras were moving along the sea, with "Amrit"

Dhanteras will be celebrated on November 10 this year. That day will be followed by Narak Chaturdashi on November 11. Diwali will be celebrated on November 12 which will be followed by Govardhan Puja on November 13 and Bhai Dooj on November 14.

As per a Hindustan Times report, the shubh muhurut for Dhanteras puja will be from 5:47 pm to 7:43 pm, lasting almost two hours. Ganesha, Dhanvantru, Lord Kubera and Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped with prasad of lapsi, coriander seeds mixed with jaggery. Flowers and garlands are also given to the deities.

During the puja, three forms of Goddess Lakshmi- MahaKaali, Saraswati and MahaLakshmi are worshipped.
