A day after national-level volleyball player Sonu Sinha lost one of her legs after being pushed off the train during a robbery near Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has expressed concern over the tragedy and sought a report from the Railways.

Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken told CNN-IBN that Sonu will be given a compensation while blaming Uttar Pradesh Police for the tragedy.

"We have decided to give her a compensation of Rs 25,000 immediately. If she requires more we'll provide her with it. I have asked the Railway Ministry to look into the incident and seek a report from the Railway Police. I have also spoken to the Home Ministry because she was going for a job interview with the CISF. I have asked them if they can still give her a job. I don't want to make this a UP Police vs Railway Police incident, but yes the UP Police are equally to be blamed," said Maken.

Sonu Sinha, 23, was coming to Noida from Faizabad on Padmavat Express for attending a Central Industrial Security Force recruitment drive when a group of robbers allegedly pushed her out of the train.

As she fell on to the tracks, she was hit by another train. Her left leg below the knee was crushed and she lay bleeding on the tracks for six to seven hours. She was found later by the Railway Police.

The railways has admitted that there was no policeman on train due to a staff shortage.

She has been admitted to the District Hospital in Bareilly the police have registered cases of attempted murder and looting against unidentified persons. None of her attackers has been traced so far.
