After Pakistan abruptly walked back its threat to boycott the high-voltage T20 World Cup match against India, social media erupted with ridicule, memes, and sharp digs aimed at the neighbouring country’s flip-flop. The internet was quick to label the reversal as a climbdown Pakistan could neither sustain nor justify.
The India vs Pakistan clash at the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for February 15, will now go ahead as planned after the Pakistan government instructed its national team to participate, following discussions with the International Cricket Council. The decision marked a dramatic U-turn from Pakistan’s earlier posturing around a boycott.
Once the news broke, online users wasted no time mocking Pakistan for what many called an unaffordable stance. One widely shared post claimed Pakistani cricket authorities were “giving belt treatment” to their own Prime Minister for announcing a boycott prematurely. The user added that Pakistan should be “thankful to the ICC for ignoring the government’s “stupidity” and ensuring the match goes ahead, while also admitting that the boycott call should never have been made.
Others pointed out the obvious financial realities behind the U-turn. Many noted that the India–Pakistan fixture is indispensable for broadcasters, sponsors, cricket boards, and fans alike. making any boycott threat more symbolic than practical.
Popular internet personality Ramesh Srivats joined the trolling with a wordplay-laden post, joking that Pakistan “stoked controversy with a boycott, got warned by the ICC, surrendered soon after,” and would now find a route to play India, the defending champions, in hopes of “Kohli-fying” their chances.
ICC should just chill. If Pakistan doesn't land up to play India, put off one exhibition match between the Indian team and the Didn't-make-it-the-squad Indian team. Full viewership guaranteed.— Ramesh Srivats (@rameshsrivats) February 9, 2026
Cricket analyst Mufaddal Vohra used a sarcastic analogy to describe the situation, comparing Pakistan’s stance to a child threatening not to study, only to quietly return to class after parental pressure, while claiming it was all voluntary.
The Internet is also flooded with memes. Take a look
