A Chinese live-streaming influencer is making waves on social media across the world for raking in 100 million yuan (about Rs 116 crore) every week by showcasing products for only three seconds each on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.

Zheng Xiang Xiang is known for her deadpan expression and lightning-fast selling technique. One of her viral videos shows her standing in a room full of orange boxes that look very similar to that of Hermès. In the clip, she is also dressed like Chinese actress Gina Jin in the 2023 film No More Bet, Singaporean website 8days.sg stated.

Xiang Xiang's way of advertising the products is not only short, it's also unconventional. Also, there is no upselling. An assistant passes her the boxes one by one and she holds up the products for a second before stating the price and pushing it away. The whole process takes about three seconds, sometimes even less.

Interestingly, most of the products the influencer showcases are priced below 10 yuan (about Rs 116). According to the Gulf News, this implies that Xiang Xiang managed to sell approximately ten million units in one week to have earned 100 million yuan (about Rs 116 crore).

Xiang Xiang has been live-streaming since 2017 and she went viral last November. With more than a million followers, she is currently a well-known figure in the Douyin e-commerce industry. Known as ‘e-commerce live streaming’, the phenomenon started in China in 2016 and is extremely popular now, Gulf News reported.

Social media experts have attributed her success to how she set herself apart from the crowd with her minimalist approach to selling, which feels more authentic and trustworthy than the stunts pulled by other live streamers in the country.
