Two runways at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle Airport were temporarily closed on Tuesday as officials deployed a drone to capture a dog that escaped from an aircraft over a week ago. The dog, a female named Amalka, slipped out of its carrier cage during an unloading operation last Tuesday and has evaded capture since.
Amalka belongs to a young Croatian tourist, Míša, who arrived in France on an Air France flight from Vienna. The escape prompted an intensive search effort, including night operations and multiple attempts to approach the animal. Despite being spotted several times, the dog has remained elusive.
Airport authorities, with the assistance of Air France, launched the latest operation during off-peak hours on Tuesday afternoon to minimise disruptions. The plan involved using a drone to locate the animal and tranquillise it with a hypodermic needle.
Air France confirmed the ongoing efforts in a statement: “The animal has been spotted and approached several times, but it has not been possible so far to capture it.”
Míša, the dog’s owner, has taken to social media to appeal for help in finding her pet. She has been staying near the airport, with Air France covering her accommodation costs. Posters have also been placed across the airport to alert staff and assist in locating the dog.
A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by aviation account FL360aero shows Míša’s appeal and describes how Amalka escaped shortly after the flight landed at Charles-de-Gaulle.

Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle, one of Europe’s busiest airports with four runways, temporarily closed two to facilitate the search operation. The closures were carefully timed to avoid impacting scheduled flights.

This incident has drawn significant attention, with several search parties organised since the dog’s escape. Airport officials and the owner remain hopeful that Amalka will be safely captured soon.
