An employee of a Bengaluru-based private firm was assaulted in broad daylight

The Bengaluru Police on Friday arrested five people in connection with assault on an employee of a private firm in the city. Two of the five people arrested with colleagues of the victim. They had reportedly hired goons to beat him up because they were upset by the amount of work pressure they were facing under him, police said.

Disturbing footage of the assault on Suresh, an auditor with Heritage Foods, had been widely circulated on social media. The video shows a group of goons thrashing the auditor with an iron rod in the middle of a road. The incident was captured on a car’s dashboard camera.

Bengaluru Police took cognisance of the incident after several social media users tagged the X account of Bengaluru City Police, asking cops to take action against the assaulters.

According to a report in Public TV, Umashankar and Vinesh were colleagues of the victim Suresh. Suresh had joined the company one year ago as an auditor. Since joining, he had been pressuring the two to work faster.

Suresh would reportedly exert pressure on Umashankar and Vinesh to clear transactions daily – a process that would earlier take days to complete. Upset by this, the two hired a few goons to thrash Suresh. Disturbing footage of the assault shows Suresh lying unconscious on the road while two men strike him repeatedly with an iron rod.

Following the viral assault video, Hennur Police Station swiftly located the victim, leading to the arrest of 5 suspects, Bengaluru Police said. The assault took place near Kalyan Nagar on the Outer Ring Road on March 31. The five accused were arrested on April 5.

Umashankar Reddy, 37, was named the key conspirator of the assault, according to a report in the Hindu. Anush Kyalwin, 23, Vineesh, 26, Muttu, 19 and Sandeep, 35, were the other four arrested.
