The billionaire has been vocal about her dissatisfaction with the authorities over the poor management of Bengaluru's roads.

Biocon founder and chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has recommended that Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike adopt scientific designs to build roads. The billionaire, who has been vocal about the poor condition of the roads and traffic snarls in the city, took to X, and said that the Bengaluru civic body should do what the Electronics City Industrial Township Authority (ELCITA) has been doing.

"ELCITA designs roads scientifically and BBMP engineers need to adopt this," Mazumdar-Shaw wrote on  X, sharing a report by The Better India. It said that Electronics City is pothole-free thanks to innovative strategies—like proactive maintenance, AI monitoring, and clean drainage systems—adopted by its civic body.

Several residents of Electronics City and other X users appeared to agree with the Biocon chief.

"ELCITA roads are the best examples to lay and maintain roads. I wish the ELCITA companies extend this to nearby areas through their CSR funds," Nagappan Muthukumar (@m_nagappan) wrote. "When we have an adopted method which is successful, why is Bengaluru (especially east) struggling to implement it?
Please design pavements for kids and old, the rest will be covered. Also, have plans from not just the city but a nationwide effort to reduce personal vehicles on roads," commented Bhavani Yerrapalli (@bhavaniy).

In 2002, L&T laid the first roads in the township. Since then, ELCITA has maintained them rigorously, ensuring good quality roads through careful planning and relaying worn-out stretches, The Better India report stated. ELCITA uses Road Metrics, an AI tool, to scan roads every fortnight for defects. This data allows them to fix problems quickly.
