Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Mohandas Pai slam Karnataka's crater-filled roads: 'Frustatingly shameful'

Billionaire founder chairperson of Biocon Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai have slammed the Karnataka government for the pothole and crater-ridden roads in the state.

Pai, on the other hand, attributed the "sad state of affairs in Karnataka" to "continuing high corruption over last 20 years". "Today in the 21St century cannot Karnataka even build pot hole free roads? Big shame!" he wrote on X.

In July, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar had announced that the state government would be spending around Rs 1,800 crore to white top around 200 km of roads in Bengaluru that are prone to developing potholes. He added the aim is to ensure that the roads are pothole-free and last for 25 years.

"We will commence white topping works in 3-4 wards every day. The works will be completed within the specified deadline. We have decided to white top about 157 km roads in Bengaluru to ease traffic jams," Times Now quoted him as saying. "The work will be completed within the specified deadline. We will ensure best quality work," said the Deputy CM, who is also Bengaluru Development and Town Planning & Bengaluru Urban District Incharge.
