What is Makar Sankranti?

Makar Sankranti 2026 was observed on Wednesday, January 14, marking the sacred transition of the Sun into Makara Rashi (Capricorn). This solar festival holds deep religious, agricultural, and seasonal importance across India and is closely associated with Surya Puja, Punya Kaal rituals, charity, and holy bathing.

Makar Sankranti marks the beginning of Uttarayan, when the Sun starts its northward journey. This period is considered highly auspicious in Hindu tradition. It is a powerful reminder of harmony between nature, fait,h and discipline. Observing the festival with devotion during the correct Muhurat is believed to bring peace, prosperity, and divine blessings throughout the year.
