Qualcomm recently announced Quick Charge 5, the company’s next-generation charging standard. Quick Charge 5 aims to take on the super-fast charging solutions recently introduced by Chinese brands, including iQOO, Realme, and Oppo.

Qualcomm’s new Quick Charge 5 technology can power devices in a matter of minutes. It is a massive jump from the previous Quick Charge 4, promising charging speeds of over 100 Watts while keeping the battery 10 degrees Celsius cooler. Quick Charge 5 is expected to be included in smartphones over the next few months.

In Qualcomm’s testing, its new charging solution powered up a 4,500 mAh battery from 0 to 50 percent in five minutes. Additionally, you will be able to get a full charge in around 15 minutes. Qualcomm also claims the Quick Charge 5 is 70 percent more efficient than the previous standard.

Ev Roach, vice president of product management for Qualcomm Technologies, said, “Quick Charge 5, our fastest and most versatile charging solution, will enable consumers to enjoy their devices for longer periods of time, without worrying about the time required to recharge. We are proud to expand our technology portfolio and make accessible 100W+ charging a commercial reality.”

Additionally, Quick Charge 5.0 is backwards compatible with Quick Charge 2 and more recent Quick Charge standards. So a Quick Charge 5 charging accessory will give you the Quick Charge speed supported by your device. Qualcomm’s new charging standard is supported by the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865 Plus. However, OEMs will have to implement the tech on their handsets before devices can take advantage of it.
