The smartphone market is expected to have closed another year on a successful note, with sales in 2023 estimated to have risen by 6 percent as compared to the preceding year, as per reports.
According to Counterpoint Research's report, the premium segment may capture nearly one-fourth of the global smartphone market sales and account for 60 percent of the revenues in 2023.
As we begin the New Year after a year of record-breaking revenues, what's next for the smartphone market?

Apple iPhone 16
This is an obvious one, Apple's annual iPhone cycle is followed keenly by customers and pundits alike. While the Cupertino-based tech giant has its hands full with a big launch for the year in the Apple Vision Pro headset, the next iPhone is what most eyes will be watching for.
While it may seem like the iPhone 15 series just launched a few months ago, people are already speculating what the next launch in September will entail.
Samsung Galaxy S24 series
For many, the Galaxy S23 series served as the perfect Android flagship. In our review, we said that the Galaxy S23 Ultra "truly deserved" the Ultra label. The S23 series proved to be a runaway hit, so you bet we are looking forward to what Samsung has in store for us next.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 6, Galaxy Flip 6
Speaking of Samsung flagships, the two foldables it launched in 2023 turned a lot of heads. In our review of the Galaxy Fold 5, we thought Samsung's ultra-premium foldable was "the best overall" compared to other foldables on offer.
The Galaxy Flip 5 was no slouch either, we thought it was it was "tremendous update" to the line-up and a phone worthy of owning in its own right.
With such a high pedigree to live up to, we can't wait to see what Samsung does in this space.
Nothing Phone (2a)
Both the Nothing Phone (1), and Phone (2) provided a unique twist on the Android smartphone by doing something different in design, when compared to other brands.
In our review, we thought the Nothing Phone (2) had a unique design, excellent battery life and a polished OS experience that would appeal to Android purists.
Now rumors have started to swirl about a more affordable Nothing Phone (2) that is expected to break cover at the Mobile World Congress 2024. As per various reports, expect a cheaper mid-range phone running on a MediaTek chipset. We don't have to wait long to find out, Mobile World Congress 2024 is set to begin in February 2024.

Google Pixel 9
We can't possibly leave Google's own Android flagships off the list, especially with the new AI-powered features introduced in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
While the mid-range Pixel 8a isn't out yet, the Pixel 9 won't be far behind. Based on early rumors, the new Pixel will continue iterating on Google's in-house Tensor chipset and of course, Google's AI smarts.
