Garmin website confirms outage in services; suspected to have been hit by ransomware attack

Fitness device company Garmin has been hit by a major outage since July 23. At the time of writing this, the company has acknowledged the ongoing outage and is working on resolving the issue.

Garmin said that some features and services across its platform will be unavailable for customers during the outage. It has also confirmed that the Garmin Connect app is also unavailable due to the outage.

“Garmin is currently experiencing an outage that affects Garmin services including Garmin Connect. As a result of the outage, some features and services across these platforms are unavailable to customers. Additionally, our product support call centres are affected by the outage and as a result, we are currently unable to receive any calls, emails or online chats,” the company said on its website.

The company did not mention the reason behind the outage but reports suggest that Garmin’s website has been hit by a ransomware attack.

ZDNet claims to have spoken to some of Garmin’s employees who have confirmed the attack.

Garmin states that there is no indication that this outage has affected your data, including activity, payment or other personal information. “Although Garmin Connect is not accessible during the outage, activity and health and wellness data collected from Garmin devices during the outage is stored on the device and will appear in Garmin Connect once the user syncs their device,” it further added.
