The original developers, Yager Development, were booted off the project in 2015, and it was moved to Sumo Digital in 2016. Then Sumo Digital also got the boot, replaced by Dambuster Studios in 2019.
Then came the delays, the first official release date for the game was supposed to be February 3, 2023, but it was delayed to April 28, 2023, to give the studio more development time. The game will now release a week earlier on April 21, 2023.
The game takes place in a fictional recreation of Los Angeles and San Franciso, which have been overrun by zombies following an outbreak. The open-world shooter will include several features from the original like the crafting system, and the rage mechanic.
