Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed confidence that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will get a thumping majority in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh where assembly polls are scheduled later this year.

“BJP has a strong foothold in all four states. We are confident of forming a government with full majority,” Shah said in an interview with ANI on February 14.

He said the schemes launched by the Centre and in states where BJP is in power have been welcomed by the people resulting in growing support for the party.

“People are aware of the initiatives taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure the nation. They appreciate the fact that under Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has become the fifth-largest economy in the world. People have started accepting the politics of development,” said Shah.

Nobody can level a single allegation of corruption against BJP, while the central agencies such as CAG and CBI took cognizance of corruption complaints and registered cases against Congress when it was in power at the Centre, added Shah.

“India has assumed the G2O Presidency during the time of Narendra Modi. The meetings of the G20 are being held in every state and it’s a big achievement for us,” the Union home minister said.

During the interview, the home minister also responded to the allegation of opposition parties that BJP has ‘captured’ the country’s public institutes because of which there is an inquiry against the party.

“These people can go the court, but they don’t go there. I had said in the Pegasus case also, that if you have proof, approach the court. They only want to create a furore,” said Shah.

Further, in response to the opposition allegations over the Hindenburg-Adani row, the home minister said, “The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the matter. As a minister, if the Supreme Court is seized of the matter it is not right for me to comment. But in this, there is nothing for the BJP to hide and nothing to be afraid of.”

Responding to the query that the administration remains busy with poll preparations throughout the year, Amit Shah said this is why PM Modi had expressed his views that polls from panchayat to Parliament should be conducted at the same time.

“I believe the time has come to hold a debate on this matter. Holding elections, every month and every year is not in the interest of democracy. A specific time has to be fixed for polls,” he said.

On the issue renaming of cities, Shah said that the contribution of the Mughals should not be erased and his party also is not in favour of it. “If anyone is interested in establishing the tradition of this country, no one should object to it,” said Shah.

The party will contest the 2024 general elections on the poll plank of the country’s development, security, economy and how BJP has been successful in launching schemes in the interest of the public, he added.
