BJP appoints Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as national working president of the party

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday appointed Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its national working president, with the decision taking effect immediately.

An official order said the appointment was made by the BJP Parliamentary Board. Nitin Nabin, a senior party leader, currently serves as a minister in the Bihar government.

"Bharatiya Janata Party's parliamentary board has appointed Nitin Nabin, a minister in the Bihar government, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national working president with immediate effect," BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said in a notification.

Nitin Nabin, 45, who belongs to the Kayastha community, is likely to succeed incumbent BJP chief J P Nadda and is one of the youngest leaders to occupy the post, party leaders said.

He has served as a minister in the Bihar Government multiple times and is a five-time MLA. At present, he is the PWD minister in Bihar and MLA from Bankipur in Patna.

Nadda was appointed the BJP President in January 2020 and has already completed his full term. He was granted extensions to lead the party through the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Nabin is young and carries a lot of experience in governance and working for the people and the organisation, party leaders said. He has also worked extensively for Yuva Morcha and has experience of being a state-incharge as well.

PM Modi said Nitin Nabin is a young and industrious leader with rich experience in party organisation and an impressive track record as both an MLA and a minister in Bihar over multiple terms. He noted that Nabin has consistently worked to fulfil people’s aspirations and is known for his humble nature and grounded style of functioning. Expressing confidence in his abilities, the Prime Minister said Nitin Nabin’s energy and dedication would further strengthen the party in the times ahead.

Nabin, a senior BJP leader from Bihar, currently serves as a minister in the state government and has held several organisational and administrative responsibilities within the party over the years. The appointment is seen as an effort to strengthen the BJP’s national leadership structure and reinforce its organisational reach, particularly ahead of key political challenges.
