Nitin Nabin, Bihar minister and five-term MLA, appointed as BJP national working president.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday appointed Nitin Nabin, a cabinet minister in the Bihar government, as its national working president, marking a major organisational elevation for the senior leader from the state. He is one of the youngest presidents of the BJP.

The decision was taken by the BJP parliamentary board and announced through an official notification issued by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh. The appointment takes effect immediately.

Nabin, who currently holds the road construction portfolio in the Nitish Kumar–led Bihar government, is widely regarded as a seasoned organisation hand within the BJP.

Known for his close coordination with the BJP’s central leadership, Nabin has played a key role in strengthening the party’s grassroots network in Bihar. He has also worked extensively with the BJP’s Yuva Morcha and is credited with building organisational depth among young party workers.

In addition to his work in Bihar, Nabin has experience serving as a state prabhari, giving him exposure to organisational management beyond his home state. Over the years, he has held several organisational responsibilities, earning a reputation as a disciplined leader with strong links to party cadres and state leadership.

As national working president, Nabin will be tasked with coordinating between the party’s central leadership and its state units, overseeing organisational affairs, and helping implement the BJP’s political and electoral strategies nationwide.

His appointment comes as incumbent BJP national president JP Nadda completes his full term. Nadda, who assumed office in January 2020, was granted multiple extensions to steer the party through crucial political phases, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The latest organisational reshuffle signals a transition phase in the BJP’s top leadership.

Who is Nitin Nabin?

Nitin Nabin is a senior BJP leader from Bihar and a prominent figure in the state’s politics. Born in Patna, he is the son of the late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a veteran BJP leader and former MLA. He entered active electoral politics following his father’s death.

A five-time Member of the Legislative Assembly, Nabin first won a by-election from Patna West in 2006. He later secured four consecutive victories from the Bankipur constituency in the Bihar Assembly elections in 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025.

In the 2020 Assembly elections, Nabin defeated Luv Sinha, son of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, by a decisive margin. In the most recent Bihar Assembly polls, he registered another emphatic victory from Bankipur, winning by a margin of over 51,000 votes.
