Amazon, Apple, Google, and Facebook appeared before US lawmakers in what was one of the biggest antitrust hearing in the country. The four major tech CEOs in attendance, Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos, Sundar Pichai, and Mark Zuckerberg, represented five trillion dollars of market capitalisation and have never been answerable to anyone before this five-hour-long hearing. Rep. David Cicilline, chairman of the House Judiciary's subcommittee on antitrust, set the tone for the hearing asking Sundar Pichai, "why does Google steal content from honest businesses". The hearings focused on the four companies market power, monopolisation, predatory practices, and conservative bias. If the hearings have thought us one thing, it is the failure of the free market to regulate the big tech companies, allowing them to in many cases seek out and destroy any competition through dubious practices that in many cases bypass their own policies.

The demand for video streaming increased considerably during the coronavirus pandemic. And those results seem to be showing, with Netflix recently confirming it had surpassed one billion installs on the Google Play Store. The number accounts for the times the app comes pre-installed on phones. The one billion-plus downloads only account for the Android version of the app and not iOS.

With Google's Android licensing ban in place, Huawei had a rather challenging year outside China. However, strong sales in China helped Huawei to the top spot in terms of global smartphone shipments for Q2, 2020. According to data from research firm Canalys, Huawei shipped 55.8 million devices in the April-June period, trumping Samsung's 53.7 million. Huawei now sells nearly two-thirds of its handsets in China, which took an early hit from the coronavirus pandemic, but has since reclaimed ground as new cases have dwindled.
