At the 11th edition of the Shanghai International Business Cooperation Forum, major Government of India initiatives such as Make in India and Digital India, which have ensured India’s rise through global rankings, were highlighted as key drivers of this growth momentum. India also stepped up efforts to enhance global interest in the upcoming AI Summit 2026.

The keynote address at the Shanghai International Business Forum was delivered by Consul General Pratik Mathur. Mathur spoke at length about the increasing global interest in the upcoming AI Impact Summit 2026. The Consul General highlighted Global South oriented, people centric and inclusive AI policies such as Bhashini. These policies have ensured that India has been able to foster the world’s largest startup ecosystem, with over 100,000 startups, while also supporting the growth of unicorns in fintech, deep tech, green technology and other new and emerging sectors.

The Consul General highlighted India’s stable policy environment and predictable, reform oriented investment climate, which have ensured the country’s emergence as the world’s fastest growing major economy in recent times. During the course of his remarks, focusing on the remarkable success of Start up India, he informed the international audience about the future oriented strategic sectors of the Indian economy. In this context, global interest was once again centred on the India AI Mission, which is striving to build a comprehensive AI ecosystem, keeping in mind India’s belief in AI for All.

During the interactive question and answer session with a full house of 400 to 500 investors and partners, the Consul General focused on the systemic reforms being undertaken in India across sectors such as manufacturing, connectivity, taxation, corporate governance and liberalised FDI norms. He noted that the allowance of 100 percent FDI in multiple sectors has helped ensure a transparent, rules based ecosystem for foreign investors.

While partners and collaborators at the Shanghai business summit stressed multiple avenues for international collaboration, India also made it clear that areas of core interest include building resilient supply chains. These efforts, it was emphasised, will help advance Atmanirbhar Bharat and ensure progress towards the realisation of the vision of Viksit Bharat.
