JD(U) candidate Anant Singh was arrested in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav during election campaigning in Mokama near Patna last week.
According to reports, Yadav died during a commotion in Mokama near Patna. The incident took place while Yadav was campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party's candidate Piyush Priyadarshi.
A Patna court on Sunday remanded Singh, and his two associates to 14-day judicial custody.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 30, near Khushhal Chak in Mokama.
Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, also known as Lallu Mukhiya, was campaigning with his supporters, accompanied by 75-year-old Dularchand Yadav, a local strongman and former RJD leader. Anant Singh and his supporters were also reportedly passing through the same route.
An argument between the two groups turned into a violent confrontation involving stone pelting and physical clashes. Dularchand Yadav sustained fatal injuries and was later declared dead.
Singh shared a video message on his social media expressing "complete faith" in people's support ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections.
Singh, who is contesting the Mokama Assembly seat this time, took to Facebook to share a video that features him being escorted by police personnel. He captioned the post, "Satyamev Jayate! I have complete faith in the people of Mokama!! That's why now the people of Mokama will fight this election!"
Who is Anant Singh?
Anant Kumar Singh, popularly known as 'Chhote Sarkar', is facing 28 criminal cases, according to his affidavit. He is a five-time MLA from Mokama.
In 2022, Singh handed over the seat to his wife after being disqualified due to a UAPA conviction. He was recently acquitted by the Patna High Court. Singh stated that he can no longer entrust the seat to his spouse and is contesting himself this time.
In the affidavit filed before the returning officer along with the nomination papers, Singh declared that he has movable assets worth Rs 26.66 crore and immovable ones worth Rs 11.22 crore. His wife owns movable assets worth Rs 13.07 crore and Rs 49.65 crore of immovable properties.
According to the affidavit, Singh, a five-time MLA from Mokama, has Rs 15.61 lakh in cash, while his wife has Rs 34.60 lakh.
Singh has several bank accounts and gold jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh. Neelam also has several bank accounts and gold jewellery worth Rs 76.61 lakh. As per the affidavit, Sigh's movable assets also include three luxury SUV cars worth Rs 3.23 crore, and his wife also owns three luxury cars worth Rs 77.62 lakh. Besides, his other assets include horses and cows.
