The Ministry of External Affairs on Monday condemned the attack by Khalistani extremists on Hindu devotees near a temple in Brampton, Canada.

Responding to media queries regarding the violence in Brampton, MEA spokersperson, Randhir Jaiswal said: "We call on the Government of Canada to ensure that all places of worship are protected from such attacks. We also expect that those indulging in violence will be prosecuted. We remain deeply concerned about the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada.

The attack by the separatist group reportedly came after a protest turned violent in Brampton. According to a video, a group of Khalistani extremists held a protest that was met with a counter-protest by a group displaying Indian flags in opposition to the extremists' ideology. Tensions quickly escalated, resulting in violent clashes between the two groups.

As the situation intensified, the Khalistani extremists reportedly began attacking members of the opposing group, who attempted to flee the scene. Many sought refuge inside the Hindu Sabha Temple, leading to an attack on the temple premises.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau strongly condemned the recent attack on Hindu 'devotees' and emphasised the importance of religious freedom. Trudeau asserted that every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely.
