Baba Ramdev calls PM Modi ‘pride of Bharat Mata’, asks people to vote for BJP

Though Baba Ramdev has always been a staunch supporter of the BJP, he had distanced himself from the party a few months ago.

Yoga guru Ramdev endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again on Wednesday in a move that is in complete contradiction to his stance a few months ago. The 53-year-old yoga expert was accompanying Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore while he was filing his nomination for Jaipur Rural constituency. Ramdev asked people to vote for the saffron party in the ongoing national general elections.

"To make India a world economic and political superpower in next 20-25 years, we have to make Modi stronger. In his hands, the country is safe; the future of our Jawans is safe, honour and respect of women is safe and farms of farmers are safe," Ramdev said.

He called Modi "the pride of Bharat Mata".

Ramdev said that only Modi can take the guarantee of not only protecting the borders, but to protect the whole nation.

In his address, Rathore said that the 2019 Lok Sabha election is about the development work done by the Modi government in five years as he slammed the Congress for failing to ensure the country's overall progress despite being in power for 50 years.

Ramdev hit out at the Congress party over the minimum income scheme, NYAY, mentioned in its poll manifesto. "Now is the time to punish them. 'Nyay' will happen now at every booth and will be delivered by the public. Voters will do justice now," he said indicating that the BJP will win the polls.

Earlier, Rathore filed nomination papers for the lok sabha polls from Jaipur rural constituency which will vote on May 6. He was accompanied by his wife, Ramdev and several sportspersons.

Though Baba Ramdev has always been a staunch supporter of the BJP, he had distanced himself from the party a few months ago.

While attending a media event only a few months ago in September, he was asked if he would campaign for the saffron party during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. To that, he had said: “Why would I? I have withdrawn myself politically. I am with all parties and I am with no parties.”

Recently, he also said there is uncertainty over who the next prime minister would be.

In 2014, during the previous Lok Sabha election, Ramdev had supported the BJP campaign and was closely aligned with the party. Within a year he was named Haryana's brand ambassador by the party and was also made a cabinet minister. He was even given a car with a beacon, special security cover whenever he would visit the state.
