'This is only our 3rd term': PM Modi's big signal in Lok Sabha on 2029 elections

Replying to the motion of thanks on the President's address, the Prime Minister told Lok Sabha that India will become "Viksit Bharat" by 2047 when it marks 100th year of Independence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that "this is just the third term" for BJP-led NDA and asserted that they will stay in power well beyond 2029 to turn India into a developed country by 2047.

Replying to the motion of thanks on the President's address, the Prime Minister told Lok Sabha that India will become "Viksit Bharat" by 2047 when it marks its 100th year of Independence.

He signalled that the BJP is looking forward to staying in power for several years to come, adding that this is "just the third term" for the NDA in power.

"In 2047, when the country celebrates 100 years of independence, we would definitely be Viksit Bharat - this is the dream we are going forward with...I say this with confidence, this is just our third term. In line with the needs of the country, to make it a modern and capable India and to realise the resolve for Viksit Bharat, we are going to be working for several years to come," he said.

PM Modi added that the Viksit Bharat vision is not just a forward-looking blueprint but a goal that the nation is actively pursuing.

The Prime Minister's remarks can also be seen as a reply to those who have been questioning whether Modi will continue to lead the country after he turns 75 later this year. Although, BJP president JP Nadda later clarified that there's no "retire at 75" rule in the party's constitution.

Despite losing the majority in Lok Sabha and forming the government with the help of NDA allies in 2024, PM Modi and top BJP leaders have asserted that the saffron party will return to power for a fourth term in 2029.

Last year, while attending the Global Fintech Fest, PM Modi said that this is the fifth edition of the event and he will attend the 10th edition as well in the capacity of Prime Minister.
