The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting on Monday, has recommended the elevation of Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, and Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, as judges of the Supreme Court.
The five-member Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Bhushan R. Gavai and comprising Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, J.K. Maheshwari, and B.V. Nagarathna, approved the recommendations at its meeting on Monday. Their appointment will restore the Supreme Court to its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges.
Justice Alok Aradhe, was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court in January this year.
Justice Vipul M Pancholi was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court in July this year. Born in Ahmedabad on October 28, 1968, Justice Pancholi practiced law at the Gujarat High Court and served as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor for seven years.
He also served as a visiting faculty at his alma mater Sir L A Shah College, Ahmedabad, for 21 years.
In October, 2014, he was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gujarat High Court and was confirmed as a permanent judge two years later.
