In a warning to sloganeering opposition MP, Om Birla asked them to raise questions with the same intensity as they “shout slogans”, adding that it would yield some benefits for the people of the country then.

Moments before the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die, thereby bringing an end to the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament, Speaker Om Birla rebuked opposition MPs for causing repeated disruptions and wasting precious time during the Monsoon session of Parliament.

The session, which began on July 21, has seen heated debates and opposition protests over various issues, including allegations of “vote theft,” irregularities in Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision and Centre’s handling of Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam terrorist attack.

In a warning to sloganeering opposition MP, Om Birla asked them to raise questions with the same intensity as they “shout slogans”, adding that it would yield some benefits for the people of the country then.

“If you ask questions with the same force with which you are shouting slogans, it will be beneficial for the people of the country. The people have not sent you to destroy government property and I request you and warn you that no member has the privilege to destroy government property,” Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla could be heard telling the MPs as the session came to an end.

In no uncertain terms, Birla reminded the opposition leader: "If you try to destroy government property, I will have to take some decisive actions and the people of the country will see you. Action has been taken against members for such incidents in many assemblies."

Amidst the protest of the Opposition MPs, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday (August 21, 2025) presented three new bills allowing the removal of elected representatives arrested on serious criminal charges and held in custody without bail for more than 30 days.

The Lok Sabha also passed The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, by a voice vote on Wednesday (August 20, 2025). The Bill seeks “to prohibit the offering, operation, facilitation, advertisement, promotion and participation in online money games”, targeting firms that offer fantasy sports and card games where users can deposit and risk money.
