Karnataka government slashed excise duty slabs making the prices of premium liquor cheaper across the state.
The state rationalised the slabs in a bid to match the cost of premium liquors with neighbouring states. The decision is expected to boost local sales, leading to a reduction in the prices of high-end liquor brands, and also increase excise revenue for the government.
Liquor merchants across the state are waiting to announce the new rate card as there has been no supply of liquor under the new rate regime yet.
The government had notified August 27 as the date on which new price would come into force when it notified the changes or Excise Act on August 23.
