Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's long-awaited poll debut will be from Kerala's Wayanad, the seat soon to be vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi. Rahul will now represent Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli, a traditional family bastion.
With this decision, the Congress in Kerala will still have a Gandhi in its corner. Wayanad is considered a safe seat, making it an ideal choice for Priyanka's debut.
After Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge announced the news, Priyanka stated she was "not nervous" and pledged to give her "best" to Wayanad.
Expressing her commitment, Priyanka said, "I am very happy to represent the people of Wayanad and will ensure they don't feel Rahul's absence. I will work hard to make everyone happy."

She also reaffirmed her enduring connection with Rae Bareli and Amethi, promising to support her brother in Rae Bareli while representing Wayanad effectively.
"I have a very old relationship with Rae Bareli and Amethi and it cannot be broken. I will also help my brother in Rae Bareli. We will both be present in Rae Bareli and Wayanad," Priyanka added.
Priyanka's poll debut has been anticipated since 2019 when many in the Congress hoped she would contest from Varanasi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the party was left waiting. Before the recent Lok Sabha election, Priyanka once again declined requests to run.
Initially, the plan was for both siblings to contest from Amethi and Raebareli. Instead, KL Sharma, a Gandhi family loyalist, was fielded from Amethi and won against BJP's former Union minister Smriti Irani by 1.6 lakh votes.
