Mizoram Election Results 2018: Trends show MNF gets a clear majority

As of 4:00 pm, MNF is leading in 26 seats while Congress is ahead in 5 seats. Others including independent parties are in lead in 9 seats.

The Mizo National Front (MNF) wins a majority in the 40-seat assembly, whereas, Congress loses its only bastion in the Northeast.

"We will not have any coalition government either with BJP or any other way because my party can form the government on its own. We have got 26 seats out of 40. We're a part of NEDA (North-East Democratic Alliance)  and NDA, but we wouldn't like to join Congress or UPA," Zoramthanga, MNF President said.

The party won 26 seats in the assembly elections, as of 4:50 pm.

Counting trends showed the Mizo National Front (MNF) gets a clear majority in Mizoram Election Results, while the Congress is trailing.

As of 4:00 pm, MNF was leading in 26 seats while Congress was ahead in 5 seats. Others including independent parties were in lead in 9 seats.

With six seats yet to be declared, the Mizo National Front has won 23 seats and is leading in three. It has a vote share of 37.6 percent.

Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla loses Champhai South by 1,049 votes to TJ Lalnuntluanga, the Mizo National Front candidate. In Serchhip constituency, the winning independent candidate Lalduhoma wins 5,481 votes, while Thanhawla gets 5,071.

The Mizo National Front candidate Lalchhandama Ralte is leading Congress’ RL Pianmawia in Tuivawl seat by just three votes. Ralte has 5,207 votes.

As of 11:00 am, MNF had hit a halfway mark in leads tally at 24 seats while Congress was leading in 7 seats. Others including independent parties were in lead in 9 seats.

As of 10:00 am, MNF is leading in 24 seats and Congress is ahead in 6 seats. Others including independent parties are in lead in 6 seats.4

As of 9:30 am, MNF was leading in 16 seats while Congress and others were in lead in 5 seats each.

The state headed for polling in a single phase on November 28. The tenure of this Assembly will end on December 15, 2018. A political party needs at least 21 seats to secure a simple majority in the 40-member Legislative Assembly.

The voter turnout in Mizoram was recorded at around 80 percent, against what was 83.41 percent in 2013.

In 2013, Congress had managed to win 34 out of the 40 seats. The MNF came a distant second with five seats. MPC had won one seat.
