Macron’s big message on India-France cooperation: 'When we team up, we deliver'

We don’t want to be dependent on one of the two big powers. We want to have a good relationship with the US and China, says French President.

In Raj Shamani’s podcast featuring Emmanuel Macron, the French President can be seen discussing various global topics, ranging from France-India relations, technology, a multipolar world, and US President Donald Trump.

During the podcast, Shamani asked, “Do you think India and France are setting an example?”

In response, Macron highlighted the growing depth of ties between the two countries.

“A series of cooperation initiatives have taken place across key sectors with your country. I really believe that when we team up, we deliver,” he said.

The podcast was made live as Macron concluded his fourth visit to India. The French leader met Shamani when he was in Mumbai.

Macron also spoke about the importance of maintaining balanced global relationships.

“Second, we don’t want to be dependent on one of the two big powers. We want to have a good relationship with the US and China. We have, by the way, a different relationship with both of them between India and France," he noted during the podcast, underlining a shared preference for strategic autonomy.

Macron also discussed educational opportunities for Indian students in France.

"First, I want to convey the message to your students, Indian students. If you come to France, you can get access to the best quality universities in high schools. Second, the language is clearly English. And I really believe that France provides a unique mix of large companies, a lot of institutions. And at the same time, the most vibrant startups and innovation ecosystem in Europe," he said.

Macron arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday, ahead of his meeting with prime minister Narendra Modi later in the day.

The French President on Thursday shared a “Thank You” note to India as he concluded his three-day visit during which he also attended the AI Summit in India.

In a post on X, Macron shared a video of his best moment in India with a “Thank You India!” note, appreciating the warm welcome he received during the visit.

During his visit,  Macron also extended an invitation to PM Modi for a state visit to France in June for the G7 Summit.
