Karnataka Election 2018 Exit Poll: What to expect and where to watch

Exit polls are set to be declared for Karnataka, which held its Assembly Elections 2018 voting today. Various news channels, in association with research firms, will put out their official election forecasts compiled after polling voters soon after they have cast their ballots.

Voting officially closes at 6 pm, after which exit polls will be declared soon.

A majority of opinion polls conducted by various news channels, done ahead of elections, have forecast a hung assembly in Karnataka, with the Congress, on average, expected to notch up 96 seats while BJP is seen getting 87 seats. The Janata Dal (Secular) is expected to garner 36 seats.

Popular opinion polls that were conducted include ABP News-Lokniti-CSDS, India Today-Karvy, Times Now-VMR and India TV poll.

Exit polls are generally considered to be more accurate than opinion polls.

After counting is done, results for the assembly elections will be declared on May 15, with BJP and Congress both claiming they will get 130+ seats in the election

As per latest data at the time of this writing, with just three more hours left for voting, 56% of votes had been registered. The total voters, including service electors according to the 2018 final rolls, are 5,06,90,538, of whom 2,56,75,579 are male voters while 2,50,09,904 are female.

This morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, who led high-profile campaigns for their respective parties, urged voters to go out and vote in large numbers.
