Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco tycoon KK Mishra, has been granted bail in connection with the high-profile Kanpur Lamborghini crash that left several people injured. The development came hours after he was arrested over the accident in Kanpur’s VIP Road.

Shivam Mishra's lawyer, Naresh Chandra Tripathi, alleged that the police had been "working under pressure" and wrongly arrested Mishra. "...The Court has refused the remand. He (Shivam Mishra) is being released now, on an undertaking of Rs 20,000 and a personal bond of Rs 20,000. The police were working under pressure from the government. Police had wrongly arrested him," he said.

On Thursday morning, Shivam was detained outside his residence in Arya Nagar and subsequently produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (AJCM) court. Authorities and witnesses stated that the car crashed into an autorickshaw and a stationary motorcycle, then climbed onto the footpath and struck people on foot.

Lamborghini crash in Kanpur

A Lamborghini Revuelto -- an Italian luxury sports car worth over Rs 10 crore -- rammed into pedestrians and vehicles in the upscale Gwaltoli area around 3 pm on Sunday.

Mohd Taufeeq, 18, an e-rickshaw driver who was injured in the accident, filed a complaint in connection with the incident. However, the accused’s lawyer later argued that Taufeeq was unwilling to pursue the case.

The matter took a new twist on Wednesday when a man identified as Mohan claimed he was the designated driver and, not Shivam Mishra, was driving the car at the time of the crash.

The police, however, rejected the claim, maintaining that evidence collected during the investigation clearly established that Shivam Mishra was driving the car when it hit pedestrians and other vehicles on the busy stretch.

The family has maintained that Shivam suffers from epilepsy and is undergoing treatment in Delhi. They have denied allegations of over-speeding or intoxication.
