The ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution define the very soul of the Indian republic, President Droupadi Murmu said while addressing the nation on the eve of the 77th Republic Day.
She said the framers of the Constitution laid a strong foundation for nationalism and national unity through carefully crafted constitutional provisions. “The ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in our Constitution define our republic. The framers of the Constitution have provided a strong foundation for the spirit of nationalism and the unity of the country through constitutional provisions.”
The President said the occasion offers Indians, both at home and overseas, an opportunity to reflect on the country's journey and direction.
“We, the people of India, at home and overseas, are going to celebrate Republic Day with fervour,” the President said, adding that the day encourages reflection on India’s past, present and future. Recalling the freedom struggle, she said its force transformed the country’s destiny on August 15, 1947, when India became independent, and its people became “the architects of our own national destiny”.
President Murmu noted that the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950 marked a decisive moment in India’s democratic journey. “Since 26th January, 1950, we have been propelling our Republic towards our constitutional ideals,” she said, pointing out that with the full enforcement of the Constitution, India emerged as a democratic republic free from the dominion system.
