The Youth Congress protest at the AI Summit venue in Delhi was inspired by Nepal’s violent Gen Z movement that toppled the government there, Delhi Police told a court, claiming there was a larger conspiracy behind the demonstration.
“This is a larger conspiracy that has taken inspiration from the Gen Z protests in Nepal. The accused need to be confronted with each other as well as with digital evidence. This is a very important investigation,” police said as it sought custody of the arrested protestors, according to a report by CNN-News18.
Police informed the court that investigators are examining the funding sources behind the protest, including who financed the printing of T-shirts bearing messages such as “PM is compromised”, “India-US trade deal” and “Epstein Files”.
About 10 activists from the Congress’s youth wing entered the AI Summit venue in New Delhi on Friday and staged shirtless demonstration, shouting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the India-US trade agreement. The protesters wore or displayed white T-shirts featuring images of PM Modi and US President Donald Trump along with slogans criticising the government.
Security personnel quickly intervened, with four of the protestors later arrested for disrupting the high-profile summit attended by technology leaders from across the world.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, BJP workers held protests across multiple states against the Congress party over the India AI Impact Summit stir.
BJP president Nitin Nabin on Friday lashed out at the Congress over the protest, saying that while earlier some parties were only affected by urban Naxalism, "today they have become a part of it."
"While India is being talked about globally, such a shameless activity has hurt India's progress," Nabin added.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari criticised the Congress party, saying, "The people of the country are not going to forgive the Congress for this act. People from more than 80 countries came to the AI Summit, and everyone has wholeheartedly praised India's efforts."
