India has firmly rebutted China's claims of mediating a ceasefire during Operation Sindoor standoff earlier this year.

As per sources quoted by CNN-News18, the Indian government stated that no third-party mediation was involved in reaching the truce during the May conflict.

"India's position on mediation has always been clear. There was no mediation that took place after Operation Sindoor. India has always maintained that there can be no third-party intervention. Pakistan requested India's DGMO for a ceasefire," sources told CNN-News18.

The response from New Delhi follows remarks by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who claimed that Beijing had played a mediating role in easing tensions in several conflict zones, including between India and Pakistan as well as Cambodia and Thailand.

Addressing the Symposium on the International Situation and China's Foreign Relations in Beijing, Wang said that local wars and cross-border conflicts had erupted more frequently this year than at any time since the end of World War II, with geopolitical instability continuing to intensify. He added that China had adopted what he described as an "objective and just" approach to peacebuilding by addressing both immediate triggers and underlying causes of conflicts.

According to Wang, China applied this approach while facilitating dialogue in northern Myanmar, the Iranian nuclear issue, tensions between Pakistan and India, the Israel-Palestine conflict, and the recent standoff between Cambodia and Thailand.

This marks the first occasion on which Beijing has claimed any role in bringing the India-Pakistan conflict to an end. The assertion comes amid the backdrop of Pakistan's use of Chinese-origin military hardware against Indian armed forces during the confrontation. From PL-15 air-to-air missiles to J-10 fighter aircraft, Pakistan's operations were largely supported by Chinese defence equipment.

At the same time, India-China relations have shown signs of improvement in 2025, with both sides implementing several confidence-building measures. These include the resumption of direct air services, restoration of visa facilities and the reopening of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

India and China have also jointly urged Myanmar's military leadership to work towards ending the civil conflict that erupted after the 2021 coup. Naypyidaw conducted the first phase of its general elections on Sunday, while the second and third phases are scheduled for January 11 and January 25, respectively.
