Multiple border cities, including Pathankot, Amritsar and Jaisalmer, are witnessing complete blackout after Pakistan attempted to strike military sites with drones and missiles including in Jammu and Pathankot.
"Complete blackout in Jammu. Loud explosions — bombing, shelling, or missile strikes suspected. Fret not — Mata Vishnu Devi is with us, and so are valiant Indian Armed Forces," said Shesh Paul Vaid, former Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to security agencies, eight missiles were launched from Pakistan, targeting the Jammu civil airport, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, Akhnoor and nearby areas. However, India successfully intercepted the missiles with the S-400 air defence system.
Blackout enforced in following border cities:Military stations at Jammu, Pathankot & Udhampur were targeted by Pakistani-origin drones and missiles along the International Border in J&K today, the defence ministry said in a statement. "The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). No casualties or material losses were reported," it added.
The Border Security Force (BSF) too foiled a major infiltration attempt along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district.
Tensions have spiralled after Indian armed forces in the wee hours of Wednesday carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's (JeM) base in Muridke, in retaliation for the terror attack in Pahalgam.
