The sudden death of prominent western Rajasthan kathavachak Sadhvi Prem Baisa has triggered political ripples, with Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) leader Hanuman Beniwal demanding a CBI investigation into what he described as “suspicious circumstances” surrounding her demise.

Prem Baisa was taken to a private hospital in Jodhpur on Wednesday evening from her ashram in Boranada. Doctors declared her brought dead. She was accompanied by her father and spiritual mentor, Veeram Nath, and another associate.

Dr Praveen Jain, who attended to her at the hospital, said efforts were made to revive her, but there was no response. He stated that Prem Baisa’s father informed him she had been running a fever and that a compounder had been called to the ashram for treatment. According to Jain, the compounder administered an injection, after which she lost consciousness.

The doctor added that he had suggested shifting the body to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination and offered an ambulance, but Nath declined and instead transported her in a private vehicle.

Speaking to NDTV, Nath said that she had been suffering from a cold and cough for a long time.

"That's why we called a compounder to the ashram. But five minutes after the injection, she became unconscious," he said.

Police sources confirmed that the compounder has been detained for questioning and his medical equipment seized as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The case has also taken on a political dimension, with Lok Sabha MP Hanuman Beniwal urging the state leadership to intervene. He said that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and the Rajasthan Director General of Police should take cognisance of the death of Prem Baisa under "suspicious circumstances".

"A high-level investigation should be conducted into this matter," the MP said.

Adding to the uncertainty surrounding the case is an Instagram post that appeared on Prem Baisa’s social media account nearly four hours after her death. The post showed her greeting followers and included a lengthy caption reflecting on her spiritual journey and faith.

"I have lived every single moment for the propagation of Sanatan Dharma... Throughout my life, I received the blessings of Adi Jagadguru Shankaracharya, the world's yoga gurus, and revered saints and sages. I wrote letters to Adi Guru Shankaracharya and many great saints and sages of the country, requesting a trial by fire, but what did nature have in store? I am bidding farewell to this world forever, but I have complete faith in God and the revered saints and sages. If not in my lifetime, then after my death, I will surely receive justice," the caption read.

Her father confirmed to NDTV that the post was made from her phone. "A fellow guru maharaj sent the message," he said.

Nath also called for an investigation into his daughter’s death, as authorities continue to examine the sequence of events leading up to the incident.
