One should keep in mind the deadline for adding their name to the electoral roll which typically occurs a few weeks before the election.

We're already in the first leg of the Lok Sabha Elections, with the second phase slated for April 26.

The Lok Sabha Elections are the largest festival of democracy in the world. All Indian citizens must cast their franchisees, which will lead to electing a government that will take the nation ahead towards development and progress.

However, before casting your franchisee, it is essential to know if your name is part of the Election Commission's electoral roll. If not, you need to follow a few simple steps to get your name listed.

Moneycontrol has compiled a simple guide for you in this regard.

Easy steps to enroll your name in the voter list:

Indian citizens who have reached the age of 18 on January 1st of the year the electoral roll is being revised, are eligible to register online as per the Election Commission rules. Additionally, registered voters also have to verify their enrollment status. Citizens can get themselves registered at the ‘Voters Service Portal’ or https://voters.eci.gov.in/.

Complete the online Form 6 application to have your name added to the electoral roll as a general voter. Enter your name, birthdate, address, and other correct personal information. If necessary, attach supporting documentation.

Aadhar card, passport, driver's licence, and any other kind of government-issued identification are often acceptable forms of identification. Make sure that every document you upload throughout the registration procedure is current and valid.

A Booth Level Officer (BLO) will carry out a field verification to confirm the information you provide after submitting your application. During the verification procedure, make sure that you are available at the provided address.

In case there are any errors or changes required in your voter information, you can use Form 8 to make the necessary changes. If you want to change your name within the same constituency, you can also utilise Form 8A.

Moreover, using the Voter Helpline app or the NVSP website, you can monitor the status of your application. If you need any support or have any questions about your application, you can also call the helpdesk of the Election Commission.

One should keep in mind the deadline for adding their name to the electoral roll which typically occurs a few weeks before the election.
