The chief electoral officer said deletions followed door-to-door verification and non-receipt of digitised enumeration forms; electors can seek inclusion till January 18.

Over 73.7 lakh names have been deleted from Gujarat’s draft electoral roll released at the end of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Harit Shukla said on Friday. India Today+1

After the exercise, Gujarat’s voter count in the draft roll stands at 4.34 crore, down from 5.08 crore before the revision began on October 27, Shukla said.

Why names were deleted

Election authorities said names were excluded where enumeration forms were not received despite repeated verification and coordination with Booth Level Agents and political party representatives.

The SIR involved door-to-door verification to identify deceased voters, those who had permanently migrated, voters registered at multiple places, and those not traceable during the survey. Enumeration forms were fully digitised, the CEO’s statement said.

Break-up of deletions

Of the 73,73,327 deletions, the EC’s break-up showed:

18,07,278 deceased voters

40,25,553 permanently shifted

9,69,662 absent voters

3,81,470 duplicate registrations

1,89,364 other categories

What electors can do now

Electors can file claims and objections for inclusion, correction or deletion of names till January 18, 2026. Authorities will verify and dispose of claims and objections by February 10, 2026, after notice and hearings, and publish the final electoral roll on February 17, 2026, the statement said.

The draft roll has been published at polling stations, designated locations and on the Chief Electoral Officer’s website; copies were also provided to recognised political parties along with lists of voters whose enumeration forms were not received.
