Veer Soren, the 19-year-old grandson of former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren, was found dead at a homestay in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday.
According to reports, Veer arrived in Manali with his friends on February 22 and checked into a homestay in Simsa. Police said the group visited Solang Valley and Sethan village along the Hamta Pass route on February 23 before returning to their accommodation later that evening.
A day later, as his friends stepped out, Veer preferred to stay back. Upon their return, he told them that he was experiencing a severe headache, a police officer told Times of India.
He went to sleep after consuming medicine given by friends. At around 2:30 pm, his friends heard a thud as Veer fell from the bed onto the floor. They found him unconscious, with foam forming around his mouth, the officer said.
He was rushed to a government hospital in Manali, where doctors administered CPR, but he was declared dead after examination.
“With profound sorrow, we inform you that our beloved grandson Veer Soren passed away untimely on 24 February 2026. After a sudden deterioration in his health in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, he was rushed to hospital, but fate had other plans. With Veer’s departure, our family has been shattered,” Champai Soren informed on X.
Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren also condoled the death of Veer Soren.
"We are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden demise of Veer Soren, the grandson of Champai Soren, in Kulu. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace at the feet of Marang Buru, and may the grieving family be granted strength to bear this unbearable sorrow. In this hour of profound grief, we stand with them," Soren posted on X.
According to a senior police officer cited in the TOI report, the cause of the death could be related to high altitude sickness.
