The AAP has announced that its legislative party meeting will be held at Arvind Kejriwal's residence at 11:30 am on Tuesday to discuss the name of the new Chief Minister of Delhi.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, reacting to Kejriwal’s resignation announcement, said the court seeing his involvement in the excise policy scam did not consider him fit to be the CM and this was also his bail condition. He cannot sign any file nor can he go to the CM's residence, she said, adding that due to this helplessness, he has created a political pretence by giving the cover of morality by claiming this resignation.

This resignation should have come 177 days ago if the basis of this decision was morality, she said.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s meeting will be held at 4:30 pm tomorrow at the LG Secretariat. Kejriwal had sought time for a meeting with Saxena. He is likely to tender his resignation tomorrow.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on September 15 termed Kejriwal's announcement to resign as Delhi chief minister as a "confession of crime".

It also termed Kejriwal's move a "drama" and claimed he was playing an "emotional card" in a bid to make a virtue out of necessity as the Supreme Court, by granting him "conditional bail" in the excise policy case, restricted him from entering his office and signing any files.

"When Arvind Kejriwal talked about resigning, it became a confession of his crime. He accepted that the charges levelled against him were such that he could not continue as chief minister," BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said.

Congress' Sandeep Dikshit has criticised Kejriwal's resignation announcement, calling the decision more about business than politics.

"The problem with Kejriwal is that if he hands over the power to someone who will start opening his files, hands over to someone who will stop the flow of money, then he will be ruined. This is not a normal transaction; this is a business deal, the shares are being transferred. No sacrifice to anyone else," he told ANI.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari on Monday said that in the history of India, there has been no CM who has been removed from his post by the court.

Speaking to ANI, Tiwari said, "In the history of India, you will not find any chief minister who has been removed from his post by the court. There is a rule of law and constitution in the nation. The Constitution says that if a CM goes to jail, he should resign so that someone else form his party can take over as the CM."

Further, he added that Kejriwal's ego is bigger than the problems of Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal had no option left, said Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva on Kejriwal’s decision to resign. “Kejriwal has not left anything - there was corruption in Jal Board, education, health, fake medicines. Now he is being caught, now he will have to answer,” he said, adding that people of Delhi want to get rid of a corrupt CM.

AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia arrived at the residence of Delhi CM and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal to attend a meeting. There is likely to be a discussion on the chief minister's face.

Arvind Kejriwal has realised that the people of Delhi look at him as a corrupt man, said BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari. When he was in jail, he got the feedback that the people of Delhi were questioning him, said Bhandari, adding that in Delhi, the fight is now between AAP versus the people and not AAP versus BJP.

JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar said that Arvind Kejriwal was compelled to make this decision (resigning as chief minister) because he just got out of jail on corruption charges. Kejriwal hasn’t been fully cleared yet, he said, adding that the Supreme Court has barred him from going to the CM office.

Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Monday that it has never happened in history that a sitting chief minister, after coming out of jail, “is himself announcing that if you consider me honest, then vote for me”. This will be the first election in the country, in which a chief minister is saying that this election will be fought in the name of honesty and that too, when the central government of the country, along with all the agencies, be it ED, CBI, Income Tax, all the agencies, are after the chief minister and no effort has been left to defame him, said Bharadwaj.

Despite whatever the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has done in two years, the chief minister still has faith in his people and his honesty, Bharadwaj added further.

Kejriwal’s unexpected announcement on September 15 kicked up a strong buzz over the names that will be considered for the role of a Delhi chief minister. Here are the top contenders for this post:

This is yet another shady stunt of Arvind Kejriwal, said BJP leader CR Kesavan after the AAP leader said he would resign from the role of a chief minister. With all these corruption charges against him being the kingpin of the liquor scam, he is afraid to go to the people, he said, adding that the public of Delhi doesn't trust Arvind Kejriwal and they have no faith in him.

Kesavan further expressed confidence that the public of Delhi will reject Kejriwal in the next Assembly election.

Aman Raj Singh, Incharge of the Central Water Commission in Ayodhya, stated, "The Saryu River is flowing above the danger mark by 53 cm. The water level is rising due to heavy rainfall in the hilly areas and the release of water from dams."
