The central government has cancelled the CBSE Class 12 board exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who asserted that the decision was taken in the interest of students and with the aim to put an end to the anxiety among students, parents and teachers.
After the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) also announced the cancellation of Class 12 board exams this year in view of the COVID-19 situation, according to its secretary Gerry Arathoon.
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has cancelled its Class 12 board exams in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, announced Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank'.
Taking a cue from the Centre's decision to cancel the CBSE class 12 board exams amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, several states also cancelled the exams for 2021 of respective state boards. Take a look at the state-wise status of 12th board exams:
HaryanaShortly after the central government cancelled the CBSE Class 12 board exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Haryana government announced cancelling the Class 12 exams conducted by the state board, said Education Minister Kanwar Pal.
GujaratThe Gujarat government has also decided to cancel the upcoming state board exams for class 12 students. The decision came days after it had announced that the class 12 board exams for students of general and science streams will be conducted from July 1 by adhering to theCOVID-19 protocol.
Madhya PradeshThe MP government also announced to cancel the Class 12 state board exam considering the safety of students amid the pandemic. The state government had already cancelled the state board exam for students of Class 10.
The preliminary exam of the Madhya Pradesh State Services Examination 2020, which was scheduled to be held on June 20, has now been postponed to July 25 in light of the COVID-19 situation.
Uttarakhand intermediate board examinations has also been cancelled in view of the prevailing COVID situation in the state. State Education Minister Arvind Pandey announced the decisionsaid the decision has been taken in the interest of students, teachers and guardians after consulting the chief minister in view of the COVID-19 situation.
GoaThe Goa government has also announced that the Class 12 examination of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has been cancelled in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
RajasthanAlso, the Rajasthan government cancelled classes 10 and 12 examinations conducted by the state board this year due to the pandemic after an online meeting of the State Council of Ministers.
Uttar PradeshThe UP Board also cancelled the class 12 examination after a meeting between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, who holds charge of Secondary Education department, and others.
MaharashtraThe state board examinations for classes 10 and 12 in Maharashtra have also been cancelled this year in view of the prevailing coronavirus pandemic, announced minister Vijay Wadettiwar.
OdishaThe class 12 board examinations conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Odisha has also been cancelled. The state government had earlier cancelled the class 10 board examination, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education.
Tamil NaduThe Tamil Nadu government has also announced cancellation of class 12 state board examinations and said a committee would be set up to decide on awarding marks to students.
Himachal PradeshHP Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur has announced the cancellation the class 12 board examinations for 2020-21.
KarnatakaAnnouncing its decision regarding the conduction of the Class 12 board exams in Karnataka, the state government has said that the exams will be cancelled in view of the current COVID-19 situation.
Following states are yet to take a decision on the cancellation of class 12 board examination 2021:
West BengalThe West Bengal government has sought public opinion on conducting board exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic within 24 hours. The state has formed a six-member expert committee, comprising the head of the secondary board, the chief of state child rights protection panel, a doctor and academics over the issue. The expert panel has already submitted its report to the government but its recommendations have not been made public.
AssamThe Assam government has said it will make a decision on holding the class 12 exams in the state after the CBSE announces modalities for marking the students.
TelanganaThe Telangana government has not yet taken a decision on conducting class 12 board examination this year.
Andhra PradeshThe government of Andhra Pradesh has also not taken a decision on cancelling the state board exams yet.
