Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, upon his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The Amir is in India for a State Visit from February 17-18. Throughout his visit, he is expected to meet with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, Prime Minister Modi, and President Droupadi Murmu.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake that struck Delhi early on Monday was caused by "normal faulting", a type of ground movement typically linked to weakened rocks from underground water or past river deposits. According to the NCS, the region within 50 sq km of Monday's epicenter has experienced 446 earthquakes since 1993, ranging from magnitude 1.1 (minor) to magnitude 4.6 (moderate). NCS Head OP Mishra clarified that the earthquake was not tectonic, meaning it was not triggered by the movement of tectonic plates. He also noted that major faults like the Sohna or Mathura Faults were not responsible for this event.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that cities like Prayagraj, Kashi, and Ayodhya reflect India’s potential, highlighting the nation's economic growth, especially compared to those who oppose the Maha Kumbh. He stated that the ongoing religious event is not only showcasing India’s faith but also making the world recognize the country’s strength. Over 53 crore devotees have participated in the holy dip so far. The CM also pointed out the significant growth in Ayodhya's footfall, noting that in 2016-17, only 2.35 lakh devotees visited, while in 2024, the number had surged to 14-15 crore. A fire erupted at an E-rickshaw warehouse in the Goyla Dairy area of Najafgarh. Four fire trucks were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze. Over 100 E-rickshaws were destroyed in the fire, according to Delhi Fire Services.

A couple were killed when soil caved in on them while they were digging for coal illegally in a village in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district, police said on Monday. The incident occurred at Dhangawan village under the Budhar police station around 6 pm on Sunday. Budhar police station in-charge Sanjay Jaiswal told PTI that a group of people were digging for coal illegally on the banks of the Son River when the soil caved in on them. (PTI)

A fire broke out at a powerloom unit in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra's Thane district, destroying equipment and goods stored on the premises, a fire official said on Monday. There was no casualty in the blaze that erupted at Bhusawal Compound in the Fatima Nagar area around 6 pm on Sunday, PTI reported. He said two fire engines with local firefighters and members of the disaster control team brought the blaze under control around 10.30 pm. The official said the authorities were probing the cause of the fire that destroyed the factory with the goods in it.

A passenger waiting for his train at the New Delhi Railway station said he was in the waiting lounge when he felt the tremors. "I was in the waiting lounge and suddenly around 5.36 am we felt really strong tremors. We felt as if the bridge was collapsing...." the passenger told ANI.

A local from Noida mentioned that it felt like the whole building was shaking. "At 5:35 a.m, the whole building was shaking...Our whole family ran outside the home. I have never felt such strong tremors of an earthquake. We are all safe..." he said.

Another local from Ghaziabad shared that he had never experienced such tremors before.

Three women died and eight injured when an RTC bus collided with an auto-carrying farm labourers to work in a chilli field at Neerukonda village in Guntur district. The deceased women have been identified as Aruna, Nacharamma and Seetharavamma, all residents of Shudapalli village in Chebrolu mandal.
