  • Uttar Pradesh to complete 1.5 lakh government recruitments in 2026
  • Ganga Expressway and Noida Airport set to open in early 2026
  • Major infra, energy, and investment projects to boost growth across the state

Uttar Pradesh is set to enter a decisive phase of transformation in 2026, with the state government rolling out an ambitious mix of large scale recruitment, infrastructure expansion, transport connectivity, energy projects and investment driven reforms. Officials said the combined push is aimed at accelerating economic growth, generating employment and strengthening public services across the state.

A major focus will be on job creation in the government sector. Around 1.5 lakh recruitments are expected to be completed during the year across departments. The police department alone is set to induct about 35,000 personnel, including constables and sub inspectors, while significant hiring is also planned in education, health, revenue and social welfare.

Infrastructure development will remain at the core of the roadmap. Several flagship projects are nearing completion or are scheduled to become operational in early 2026, led by the Ganga Expressway, the Noida International Airport at Jewar and the Kanpur Lucknow Expressway.

The 594 kilometre Ganga Expressway, connecting Meerut with Prayagraj through 12 districts, is expected to open to traffic in January 2026. Built at a cost of around Rs 37,000 crore, the expressway will reduce travel time between the two cities to about eight hours, with a design speed of 120 kmph. The corridor includes nearly 1,500 structures such as flyovers, bridges and underpasses and has strategic importance as the country’s first expressway designed for night landings of fighter aircraft.

The Noida International Airport at Jewar, projected to be among the world’s largest, is also likely to begin operations in early 2026. Developed under a public private partnership model, the airport will start with two runways and two passenger terminals in phase one. Officials estimate that around 35,000 passengers per day will shift from Delhi’s IGI Airport to Jewar, easing congestion. In the first year, about 40 lakh passengers are expected to use the facility, with annual capacity expanding sharply in later phases.

Another key project nearing completion is the 63 kilometre Kanpur Lucknow Expressway, targeted for opening by February 2026. Built at a cost of about Rs 4,700 crore, the expressway will cut travel time between the two cities to around 40 minutes and provide a faster link to Lucknow’s airport. It will also connect with the Ganga Expressway near Unnao, strengthening regional road connectivity.

Plans are also in place to begin construction of a 74 kilometre link expressway connecting the Ganga and Yamuna expressways in 2026. The greenfield project is expected to improve access to the Noida International Airport and ease movement between western Uttar Pradesh, Agra and Greater Noida.

Infra projects to reshape several cities:

Urban infrastructure projects are set to reshape several cities. Prayagraj is expected to get the country’s second longest elevated road, a 10 kilometre six lane corridor from Malaka to Tripathi Chauraha, aimed at easing traffic congestion. In Lucknow, the second phase of the metro is expected to gain momentum in 2026, with the proposed 11.2 kilometre East West Corridor connecting Charbagh to Vasant Kunj.

Varanasi is preparing for the inauguration of an international cricket stadium inspired by the theme of Lord Shiva. Built at a cost of Rs 452 crore, the stadium will initially seat 30,000 spectators and is expected to host international matches in 2026.

The state is also pushing new age infrastructure. Work on India’s first Artificial Intelligence City in Lucknow’s Nadarganj area is gathering pace, with the project being developed jointly by the Tata Group and the state government. The AI City is expected to house startups, research centres, training institutes and IT companies, with visible on ground development expected during the year.

On the energy front, Bundelkhand is set to emerge as a major solar power hub, with large solar parks under development in Jhansi, Lalitpur and Chitrakoot. At the same time, two ultra supercritical thermal power units of 800 MW each have been approved in Obra, Sonbhadra, which will add 1,600 MW to the state’s power capacity by the end of 2026.

Push for fresh investment

The government is also stepping up efforts to attract investment. Preparations are underway for the fifth ground breaking ceremony, where projects worth over Rs 5 lakh crore are expected to move to the implementation stage. Officials said the state is also considering hosting another Global Investors Summit in 2026. To improve ease of doing business, an upgraded single window clearance system, Nivesh Mitra 3.0, is planned to be rolled out.

In the social sector, Ayush hospitals across the state are expected to begin offering surgical services, while stricter regulatory measures are being planned to curb illegal trade in controlled medicines. The capacity of cyber crime and emergency call centres is also set to be enhanced to ensure quicker response to online fraud.

Officials said the scale and spread of projects lined up for 2026 underline the government’s intent to position Uttar Pradesh as a major investment destination while creating jobs and improving infrastructure across urban and rural areas.
